Applicants applying for any type of visa must now submit their expired passport if they were issued a new one after January 1, 2014.  If the expired passport is not available, the applicant may provide a support letter explaining why it cannot be presented.  There is a possibility of rejection by the Chinese embassy if the expired passport is not submitted with the visa application, even if a support letter is provided.

Along with submitting the expired passport, the Chinese mission is also requiring application forms to be typed, rather than handwritten.
