Beginning July 18, 2020, the Costa Rica Immigration Authorities will begin to receive new applications.
The validity of documents, such as police clearance certificates, marriage certificates, and birth certificates will be valid until September 18, 2020, even if they have since expired during the pandemic.
Foreign nationals in Costa Rica with an expired DIMEX as a Temporary Resident after December 18, 2019, or soon to be expired DIMEX, are now extended until September 30, 2020. Once the automatic extension has ended, the foreign national will have 3 months to continue out the formalities with immigration authorities.
Currently, only foreign nationals with a temporary, permanent, or visa estancia case in process will be allowed entry into the country. Entry into Costa Rica with a tourist visa is restricted until June 30, 2020. Foreigners currently in Costa Rica with an expired tourist visa will be granted an automatic extension until August 18, 2020.
